Under Greek law, a testator is not entirely free to exclude their closest relatives. The forced share guarantees them a minimum portion of the estate.
Who is entitled
Forced heirs are the descendants (children, grandchildren), the parents and the spouse of the testator. The forced share amounts to half of the intestate portion.
How it is claimed
When the forced share is impaired by a will or by lifetime gifts, the beneficiary can protect it judicially, including by a claim against excessive gifts, within the statutory deadlines.
